i'm held hostage by your touch;

Caroline was entirely submerged in her own little world, all note-taking and microscoping, back turned to her test subject -- she had enough samples for the moment, his wounds were cleaned and dressed, and the heart monitor's steady beeping suggested that all was well. As well as it could be for him, in his position. To reword: all signs pointed to the fact that he was not in need of her immediate attention, medical or otherwise, unless she was about to be overcome by a sudden impulse of empathy.

Which she wasn't. Hadn't been in all this time.

So it's all but relatable that she flinched upon hearing one of the straps -- his straps -- snap back behind her. The others followed within seconds, it wasn't a very hard system to overcome once one of them was done for.

She turned in her chair, a fancy office model, perfect for comfortable working or your standard super-villain's lair. Not that she thought of herself as the villain. Life had few villains, and fewer heroes, if one was to ask her. She was doing her job, other people were doing theirs. Most just tried to make ends meet, one way or another. Somehow, the doctor doubted that he would find that very reassuring, after months of what was work to her, but amounted to torture to him. Most tried to make ends meet, and she was about to meet her end.

"If you kill me, you will not make it out of the building. I doubt your loved ones would appreciate it."

One truth, and one half-lie. He would, in fact, have trouble getting out, naked as he was, in an underground laboratory secured with passcodes and the occasional guard. However, any threat to his friends or family or whatever it was he might have, was empty. She was not in control of that part.

More likely than not, they probably wouldn't be so fond of hearing that Matt got arrested for murdering a scientist. Which was the half-truth her bluff was based on, in the hopes of him not being able to tell that she was lying.
